I am Cara McCaughey, final year student at Belfast School of Art, specialising in textiles and embroidery. Pictured is a close up of my final outcome for semester one, a large repeat pattern created from my own illustrations of stoats and hand embroidered to tell the story I wrote to accompany the artwork! The piece is actually about 90cm x 130 cm and tells a cyclical story about life and death through the medium of screenprint and hand embroidery. The full thing and many many more close ups can be found on my blog - http://caramccaughey.tumblr.com

Cuterus Uterus (plural kawaii uteri) prototype. It’s a rice heating pad. Microwave it, apply to angry uterus. Feel a little better.
EDIT: I have one for sale now! Etsy.

As an endometriosis sufferer, I would really like to remove my actual uterus and replace it with one of these.

By David Catá, these somewhat gruesome but beautiful sewn portraits of people that have impacted upon the artist in his life are part of an ongoing project called ‘A Flor De Piel’. Each is a perfect representation of the concept, of loss and pain—then the residual mark left in its wake.

I hope no one’s offended by the “gore” tag…I’m just trying to think of new tags that might be helpful to users.
